These are the places where Kathy and I have worked, played and/or photographed.

While traveling we have been involved with projects using Global Information Systems technology. Here is an interactive Life-Time Travel Map created with GIS. (It does not display well on all devices - so if it doesn’t look right, use this link!)

We have been involved with several projects in which we have used geographical information systems. Here is an interactive version of our travel map using GIS visualizations.

We have been in living in Asia for most of the last 5 years (since July 2017). This interactive map shows the major cities we have visited.

The Home button will zero the map in on the areas I have visited in Asia. Zooming out will show other areas that I have been to. The map can be zoomed in to street level.

From time to time, we’ll embellish our posts with something we’ve been playing around with - the use of geographic information systems (GIS) to help share our travel experiences. We are very interested in how approaches like this can be used to enhance journaling and diary keeping in general, for private and sharing use. To do this we are combining some of our own software, Mixology Studio, with that of a company called Esri.

We use the use our Mixology Studio software to create little bite-sized subsets of images, video, and stories. Together we have gathered a partially curated library of over 100,000 images, videos, and a little bit of writing. We use GIS and other software to create dynamic ~30 second windows (Surfaces) into this collection. We also use them to explore ways to “cover” a travel experience by merging the work of more than one traveler.
